On 11th November, we as Media students went Oxford Circus to Regents Cinema to meet and see an interview with Anna Smith who is a journalist. The cinema was built in 1848 and the cinema was the first in the country to show moving pictures. Anna Smith who has been a journalist for over 20 years seemed very passionate about her job. She used to be a music journalist however over the years she noticed music was 'not her thing' which made her move to becoming a film journalist. She watches films and reviews them in the most interesting way possible. There were many questions that were asked and one of the questions she received from one of the students was what kinds of questions we could have on our DPS that we would ask our stars in our magazines. The answer she gave was that she would "Ask questions they have never heard of before, for example definitely not 'what was your inspiration to becoming a singer?' because they probably heard that before many times." This is great advice because it is definitely a very valid point. When she was asked about one of the interesting questions she ever asked, she stated that she once asked a singer "How many times have you saved the world?" which I think would have probably made the interviewee think hard and make the interview a lot more enjoyable. She also pointed out that becoming a journalist is a lot more harder then the times when she became a journalist. This is because people now are a lot more knowledged and educated which means it is almost like a competition to become successful . Her advice to becoming a journalist was that you have to be different from everyone else, and start watching as many films as you can at a young age and write reviews on them to practise writing skills.
